eddydector® - Eddy Current Crack
Detectors - Flaw Detectors
Multi-Channel Crack Detectors for Component
Part Inspection.
Reasonably-Priced Quality Control

eddydector® crack detectors are eddy
current instruments specifically developed to
test components for surface cracks, either prior
to, or after, grinding, machining or other
production sequences. The eddydector®’s
principle of operation is based on the
environmentally clean eddy current test method.
Cracks as small as 0.05 mm in depth can be
detected in components parts with predominately
round finished surfaces. The signal amplitude
varies according to the depth of the crack;
however, the effects of alloying and surface
conditions will determine crack detection
ability.
The system is capable of testing with eight
probes at a time. Each of the plug-in test
channels is an independent, individually
adjustable eddy current instrument, which makes
it possible to provide a complete compact test
station for multi-point inspection of camshafts,
valves, etc. using just the one handy
instrument.
The output signals of each channel are
transferred in analog form (X and Y) to an
oscilloscope or a printer. Defect signals are
passed on via opto-interface to a control system
(or PLC) operating marking or sorting mechanism.
Each test channel has its own bar graph display
for crack signals. Defect signals remain stored
until reset by either an external “Quit” signal
or by manual operation of the “Quit” touch key.
An extremely rapid inhibit signal allows
reliable crack detection very close to the bored
holes, where normally such cracks would be
concealed by the borehole signal.
Damaged eddy current probes or cable are
instantly recognized by a special probe-failure
supervision feature. An inbuilt overload sensor
prevents incorrect setting of the system.
Despite the versatile possibilities, the
eddydector® is extremely easy to handle and
operate, and adjustments are very simple and
easy to carry out.
The fully-equipped system consists of a
high-frequency shielded case with power supply,
microprocessor plug-in unit with LCD display (4
x 20 characters) and operational keys, plus up
to eight test channels.

(Top) When only one test channel is required,
the oscilloscope, test channel and display
module are included in one handy package.
(Bottom) Adjustable filters and low-noise
amplifiers guarantee a high signal-to-noise
ratio, thereby enabling very small defect
signals to be detected.
All set-up information is displayed on a large,
easy-to-read LCD screen. Adjustment of the
set-up parameters is accomplished by keys “+”
and “-”. A three-level key-operated switch
provides security for unauthorized alterations.
Set-up parameters for individual applications
are stored on a microprocessor memory together
with the supervisory functions required during
automatic testing. An optical isolated interface
provides connection to a PLC for monitoring of
each crack detector channel. A wide selection of
eddy current probes are available solve even the most
problematic applications. Special coils and
probes can be developed to fulfill special
requests.
